Russia and Ukraine (Opinion)

In the course of human history, there is none quite a threat as great as an enemy invader. No matter the conqueror or the conquered, mankind’s affinity for war has brought endless devastation, destruction, and displacement to the tens of billions of people who have inhabited our planet before us. It comes as no surprise then that the Fascist attitude to warfare can best be summarized in a quote by King Charles XII of Sweden, one of the greatest statesmen of the 18th century: “I have resolved never to start an unjust war, but never to end a legitimate one except by defeating my enemies.”

And so it comes as no surprise that while Russia and it’s leader, Vladimir Putin, prepare to launch their inevitable invasion of Ukraine, one must ask why. Why does Putin want Ukraine? What is his obsession with former Soviet territory?

What we see in this is the very same unjust conflict that Charles vowed never to begin. Putin, an oligarch and a very wealthy man, has made his entire nations economy revolve around him and his bureaucratic friends. Where the Soviet Union once preached against Capitalism and private ownership, Russia has now embraced all the worst aspects of the market system. Its corporations are even more ruthless than here in America, with the men on top raking in endless cash from their various industrial, banking and armaments endeavors while simultaneously paying even less than their American counterparts in tax and while many of Russia’s towns and cities continue to decay, their aging Soviet era infrastructure and architecture left to rot by the government, and the Ruble continues to plummet in value.

The only victory that can be afforded to Putin and his legacy of governance over Russia is that the Russian military now stands as the strongest in Europe, and has finally given Russia a geopolitical position that allows them to make the demands, not the United States. Here in America, the shock around Putin’s actions has reached many, but to those who’ve been paying attention since his original annexation of Crimea, it is no surprise. For the last fifteen years or so the United States has been gradually declining in its global importance. Our economy is collapsing, the dollar becoming worth less and less by the day and our President is a senile, incompetent old fool who couldn’t stand up to a Russian dictator without risking tripping on his own shoelace first. As a result, foreign powers like China and Russia, embittered against the United States and likely rightfully so, have begun to make their plays to expand their global influence.

Yet, the justification for this on the Russian end is lacking. Putin, who has horribly mismanaged his own country, now seeks to expand his influence and political control over another sovereign nation, with a different culture, heritage, language and traditions. Since the end of the USSR, Ukraine has had it rough, dealing with its own era of Oligarchs and infighting, as well as aggression by the Russians from time to time, but since the beginning of President Zelensky’s term he has brought some semblance of stability to the young nation. Ukraine is not perfect, and has a long and hard journey ahead of it, but perhaps the greatest crime Putin will commit is stamping out Ukraine’s potential before it is really allowed to shine.

There is only one potential course of action that could deter an invasion of Ukraine from here: Ukraine must be allowed to join NATO and the European Union. I know this will come as a shock, as Fascisti do not usually advocate for either organization, but consider such: unlike other foreign conflicts the US has engaged in in the last fifty years, Ukraine is already democratic country that would be seeking to maintain its sovereignty from an invading totalitarian dictator who has no regard for their culture, and whose country has attempted to wipe out Ukrainian culture in the past. Much like the First Gulf War and Desert Storm (which was handled much better than the second) American intervention is not only morally justified, but it should be the duty of all Americans to defend the rights and liberties of every free person on Earth. For while forced democratization and regime change is a fallacious pursuit, the protection of the divinely given rights of men is not.

To end on perhaps the best call to action I can give you, I leave you with this message from Seamus, the founder of our organization: “If war in Ukraine breaks out, I’m volunteering for service.”

God bless you all comrades.
